How to choose the right PCB board material?

طراحی تخته مدار چاپی (PCB) is a routine task for most electronic engineers (EE). Despite years of PCB design experience, creating high-quality performance-driven PCB designs is not easy. There are many factors to consider, and plate material is one of them. The basic materials used to make PCBS are very important. Before manufacturing, the properties of the material in various aspects must be considered, such as flexibility, temperature resistance, dielectric constant, dielectric strength, tensile strength, adhesion and so on. The performance and integration of a circuit board depends entirely on the materials used. This article further explores PCB materials. So stay tuned for more information.

What types of materials are used in PCB manufacturing?

This is a list of the main materials used to make circuit boards. بیایید نگاهی به آن بیندازیم.

Fr-4: FR is short for FIRE RETARDENT. It is the most commonly used PCB material for all types of PCB manufacturing. Fiberglass reinforced epoxy laminate FR-4 is made using fiberglass woven cloth and flame retardant resin binder. This material is popular because it provides excellent electrical insulation and has good mechanical strength. This material provides very high tensile strength. It is known for its good manufacturing and moisture absorption.

Fr-5: The substrate is made of a glass fiber reinforced material and an epoxy resin binder. This is a good choice for multi-layer circuit board design. It performs well in lead-free welding and has excellent mechanical properties at high temperatures. It is noted for its low moisture absorption, chemical resistance, excellent electrical properties and great strength.

Fr-1 and FR-2: It is composed of paper and phenolic compounds and is ideal for single-layer circuit board designs. Both materials have similar properties, but FR2 has a lower glass transition temperature than FR1.

Cem-1: This material belongs to the group of composite epoxy materials (CEM). The set consists of epoxy synthetic resin, fiberglass fabric and non-fiberglass core. The material, used in single-sided circuit boards, is inexpensive and flame retardant. It is famous for its excellent mechanical and electrical performance.

Cem-3: Similar to CEM-1, this is another composite epoxy material. It has flame retardant properties and is mainly used for double-sided circuit boards. It is less mechanically strong than FR4, but cheaper than FR4. Therefore, it is a good alternative to FR4.

Copper: Copper is the primary choice in the manufacture of single and multilayer circuit boards. This is because it provides high strength levels, high thermal and electrical conductivity and low chemical reactivity.

High Tg: High Tg indicates high glass transition temperature. This PCB material is ideal for boards in demanding applications. Tg materials have high temperature durability and long time delamination durability.

Rogers: Commonly referred to as RF, this material is known for its compatibility with FR4 laminates. Due to its high terminal conductivity and controlled impedance, lead-free circuit boards can be easily machined.

Aluminum: This malleable and malleable PCB material prevents copper boards from overheating. It was chosen primarily for its ability to dissipate heat quickly.

Halogen-free aluminium: This metal is ideal for environmentally friendly applications. Halogen-free aluminum has improved dielectric constant and moisture diffusivity.

Over the years, PCBS have gained tremendous popularity and found a wide range of applications in industries that require complex circuits. Therefore, choosing the right PCB material is very important, because it affects not only function and characteristics, but also the overall cost of the board. Choose materials based on application requirements, environmental factors, and other limitations faced by the PCB.
